Field note: Stump fern or tussock in very wet ground mixed with stones along creek of a deep very humid cut; root-stock 6 inches thick, twice as long, stipe ascending, a yard long, 1 inch thick at the base where it is blackish brown and beset with similarly coloured scales, dull green toward the frond; fronds succulent, widely spreading and tips recurved, as long as the stipes which are deeply channelled along the upper side, paler beneath.
